For many of us, a trip down memory lane ushers in nostalgic emotions that bring a smile to our face. Travel back in time with us now to 1966 when Family Kingdom Amusement Park first opened along the ocean in Myrtle Beach. Back then it was called Grand Strand Amusement Park. It carried that name until 1992, when it was modified to Family Kingdom as the park changed hands.
You may remember it never cost a cent to get IN the park. It's actually STILL one of the few amusement parks in the nation that don't charge an admission fee.
And you can still pay to ride JUST one ride, like we did back then. At Family Kingdom, you still have several options when it comes to ride passes. You can ride all day for one low price, and even get a combo all-day pass that includes access to their sister (water) park next door.
If it's been a while since you've been back to this seaside amusement park, then you may notice that some of the rides have changed over the years... and others are just upgraded versions of the same.
You can walk around all you like and just enjoy the lively activity. The park includes 13 acres of fun in which to partake. As a youngster you probably didn't realize it encompassed so much territory. I know I didn't.
Most of the rides offer panoramic views of the ocean. And that legendary wooden roller coaster called the Swamp Fox is probably a little less scary than it used to be — although we're quite sure it's still as thrilling.
Do you remember those days when your parents would pull up to this oceanside amusement park and your heart would start to pound from excitement? I sure do!
Family Kingdom Amusement Park is located at 300 S Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. The park is open seasonally; opening day for 2018 is March 24th. Save the date.
