It’s hard to pass up a good waterfall hike and this is one you should take if you love hiking – and waterfalls! The trail to Yellow Branch Falls is located just outside the town of Walhalla on SC-28. It’s found almost across the street from the entrance to Stumphouse Tunnel Park. Park the car and hit this 1.5-mile trail to one of the most beautiful waterfalls you’ll find in South Carolina.
What makes Yellow Branch Falls so very different from other waterfalls is the 50-foot-tall waterfall has many individual falls that flow or trickle over the countless ledges found on the stacked rock cascade. Plus, standing at the base, you'll be mesmerized by the enormous width (nearly 80 feet!) of this one.
Wind up at this spot after a heavy rainfall and you may get the impression the waterfall looks more like a fountain than a creek flowing over a series of ledges, with the water spewing out a blowhole at the top only to be inhaled by a filtration system at the bottom and then sent back out the top.
In terms of difficulty, you'll encounter several small creek crossings that will likely have some rocks to step on as you cross, but don't count on it. Bring extra shoes in case you need to put on dry ones at the end of the hike.
Of course, you can always explore a short distance downstream, too, to discover more (smaller) waterfalls as the water flows farther down Yellow Branch Creek. It's such a lovely sight!
