19 Stereotypes About South Carolina That Need To Be Put To Rest
South Carolina carries with it many stereotypes/misconceptions about its state and its people. As a native, I believe I have heard them all or at least I think I have and it is time to get down to the truth of the matter.

Laugh if you must, but it is true. Spring and Fall may be short this is true. And, Summer here is long and when it is sweltering we may feel that it never ends, but it does...eventually.

Where did this come from? Sure, there are those of us who choose the country over city living, but just as many of us live in the city too. And, we can navigate more than a two-lane road as well.

Yes, we do use them and a lot of them are necessary, but we do have own other types of vehicles.

I have to admit that I absolutely adore Charleston with its old world charm, but we go other places as well.

We have so much more here including opera houses, theater productions, art galleries and on and on and on...

It is true that we have some beautiful beaches in South Carolina. In fact, they are absolutely amazing and we love to visit them on occasion. However, there we have mountains too.

I know, I know. It is shocking isn't it? Although I love them, I know quite a few people who were born and raised here that detest the very mention of them.

Admittedly, it can look and be fun at least once, but not all of us do this or want to do this.

Despite the fact that we complain about the sweltering summers and wish we could move to a cooler climate during the season, it is all just talk. How could we hate a state that has everything?

Just because we talk slow, doesn't mean we are slow. It just means we want you to hear every word we have to say with no misunderstanding.

Sure, we have been dubbed "The State Divided" and some of us are diehard fans. But, there are also the ones of us who honestly couldn't tell you when football season starts or ends.

and plates drenched in gravy. It is so good, but we can't eat that on a daily basis. It's impossible. We love salads and we absolutely love to grill!

This one cracks me up. Where did it come about that people think Waffle House would be our "night out" restaurant?

We have two kinds here...country and western. Seriously, as I have said many times before we listen to everything from alternative to zydeco.

Granted, in the summer it is hard to wear anything else and there are some of us who wear them year round but, we do own other shoes. For instance, I know a guy who owns at least 30 pairs of shoes and only one of those are flip flops.

Astounding I know, but it's true. We are proud of our state and proud of our Palmetto tree. So much so that they are readily available for purchasing. However, there are those who think it is nice, but have other interests.

I personally avoid the place as much as possible.

Contrary to what others believe, South Carolinians do not marry their cousins and/or close relatives.

We can be nice just like anyone else from other states and when you add the southern accent, it just kicks it up a notch. However, we have our bad days as well where we spit fire and shoot with both barrels. I bet that southern accent doesn't sound too sweet on those days...
Now you can let it be known that these stereotypes/misconceptions about South Carolina and its people are all false. I cannot say that there is not a grain of truth in a few of them, but most of them are just insanely hilarious. If I have missed any that you would like to be known, please list it in the comments below. Thanks guys!
