Here’s why you should probably get in your car and go to LaSalle Bakery in Providence as soon as you can.

So what is a zeppole, exactly?

It's an amazing Italian pastry that consists of deep fried dough, powdered sugar, and whatever else (cream, jelly, etc.) the baker desires. In other words, it's a little piece of perfection.
LaSalle Bakery has been around for decades -- in fact, the father of the current owner, Michael Manni, Jr., worked there (in its prior location) in 1965 at the age of 15.

Michael Sr. worked at the bakery through high school, college, and his military years. He eventually bought the business from the original owner, who stayed on for 10 more years to mentor him.
The bakery is now owned by Michael Manni, Jr., and his parent still play an important role in production.

Obviously, this place is famous for zeppole, and for good reason -- they're exceptional.
