Do you believe in ghosts? Perhaps you’ve experienced something that you just couldn’t explain – a touch on the shoulder but no one’s there? Catching sight of an apparition out of the corner of your eye? Or feeling a rush of cold in an otherwise toasty room? Here are some terrifying places in Rhode Island where you just might experience something, well, otherworldly.
1. Chestnut Hill Cemetery – Exeter
Chestnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Exeter, RI 02822, USA
Most cemeteries are tranquil places where we go to honor those we love. However, one tortured soul is said to roam the Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Townspeople believed the young girl was a vampire, which led to exhuming her body, ripping her heart and liver out, and throwing it in a fire. She’s said to still roam the cemetery today. Read more about the ghost of Mercy Brown in our previous article.
2. Tower Hill Road – Cumberland
Tower Hill Road, Tower Hill Rd, Cumberland, RI 02864, USA
A drive along the tree-lined Tower Hill Road is so pretty, but it can also be downright frightening – especially once the sun goes down. Drivers tell quite a few tales of the paranormal, including witnessing apparitions of children and zombies wandering about. A bigfoot-like creature has even been seen lurking along Tower Hill Road. Do you dare drive down this haunted road in Rhode Island?
Brenton Point State Park is a picturesque place to spend a day outdoors. However, there’s one area that’s teeming with the paranormal. If you’re brave enough to visit the ruins of this former estate, you might experience some really odd happenings. You can’t actually go into the ruins any longer, but plenty of visitors have witnessed strange occurrences – like the sound of horses when none were around – in this area of the park. You might also hear voices when you’re all alone. Will you visit these haunted ruins in Rhode Island?
Woonsocket Middle School may be long abandoned when it comes to welcoming students, but that doesn’t means it’s empty. Many, in fact, tell of seeing ghosts as they drive or walk by this now abandoned school. (Going inside is prohibited.) Do you know the true story behind this abandoned middle school in Rhode Island?
Colt State Park earns gem status from Rhode Islanders, but it’s also got quite the haunted side, something you might experience if you hit its hiking trail. If you hear the sound of two little girls laughing as they follow you, don’t be too alarmed. The girls, said to have drowned many years, ago, often attempt to chase visitors off of the trails. But…they’re not the only ones said to haunt this beautiful state park. See if you’re brave enough to traverse this haunted Rhode Island trail.
