Did you know Rhode Island has its very own secret garden? Sakonnet is an enchanting, peaceful oasis located in the town of Little Compton. And if you’ve never heard of it, spring is the perfect season to discover it for the first — or the fifth — time.

Sakonnet Garden is a passion project for a small group of Rhode Islanders ranging from a nursery owner to a Landscape Architect.

The garden is privately-owned, but visits are open to the public once in a while.
Sakonnet got its start in the mid-1970s as small clearing deep within a cluster of Autumn Olives, Oriental Bittersweet, and local Arrowwood Viburnums.

Since then, the area has expanded substantially and now encompasses more than an acre.
Step inside and walk the pathways that lead you through row upon row of plants, flowers, and trees.

The paths blend in with the original growth, meaning there's almost no disruption to the natural surroundings.

So far, 2020's open days include May 22, May 23, and August 23. Admission is $20, and plants will be available for purchase.
