Hiking is a great way to get outside and soak up nature’s beautiful surroundings. But sometimes, you just don’t feel like scrambling around boulders or sinking into the mud to enjoy that walk in the woods. Great news! There is Rhode Island Boardwalk Trail that will take you through amazing scenery without ever getting your feet muddy. This is one short and sweet hike you’re going to want to take.
The Dundery Brook Trail is located in Little Compton. You can explore forested wetlands and swamps all from the safety and comfort of gorgeous inland boardwalk.
This trail is ideal for kids and for those who may have mobility challenges. The boardwalk is flat, handicap accessible, and privy to an abundance of wetland habitats.
There are places along this Rhode Island Boardwalk trail to stop and take a seat to enjoy the lush surroundings.
The boardwalk section spans over 3000 feet, just over 1/2 mile so even the smallest of children won't get tuckered out.
Beyond the boardwalk, the Dundery Brook Trail continues on as a grassy path for an additional 1/2 mile.
You'll pass along the edges of Bumblebee Pond.
Be on the lookout for the many species of wildlife that call this area home. You might spot turtles, frogs, deer, wild turkeys, and other assorted animals.
The grass path leads to an unspoiled meadow where a colorful carpet of wildflowers grows.
The Dundery Brook Trail is just over two-miles round trip, but you can certainly walk less of the path if you wish. However far you decide to go, this trail is a delightful little hiking escape.
