As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
No matter how much you love your home, there comes a point where you’ll feel the need for a change of scenery, even a local one. And while the only places Rhode Islanders are currently exploring are their own backyards, there will come a day when we’re welcome to travel again. And when that time comes, we highly suggest relaxing and recharging at a luxury hotel. The Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel is a perfect pick for a staycation.
First of all, this building has a fantastic history. It was constructed in 1927 and meant to be used as a meeting hall for the Freemasons.
But when the financial crisis hit in 1929, construction was halted. When World War II started, construction was stopper permanently, and the building was abandoned.
This magnificent building sat empty for 75 years until it became the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel, which opened in 2006.
And while you certainly won't have to leave the property to have a great stay, some of Rhode Island’s most famous attractions (and plenty of places to eat and shop) are just a short walk away.
Should you choose to make it a true staycation and stick around, enjoy a meal at the onsite eatery, Public Kitchen & Bar.
