Between its peaceful beaches and the thousands of acres of forest land, Rhode Island is an incredible place to camp. And while camping is a popular summertime activity here in the Ocean State, this summer definitely looks different than others. Current circumstances forced the state to delay state campgrounds’ opening dates while new protocols were put in place, surfaces were sanitized, and the areas were appropriately staffed.
The good news is, four of our beautiful state campgrounds are now open for your enjoyment, and hopefully more will follow as we progress through the summer. If you’ve been eagerly anticipating setting up camp and enjoying being in nature, make a reservation at one of these spots.
The camping area for The Charlestown Breachway is located on the east side. While it offers stunning views of Block Island Sound and the best saltwater fishing in the area, there is one catch: this place can't accommodate tent camping. All units must be self contained with their own water and restrooms, so you'll want to bring an RV.
Have you ever wanted to live in a little seaside village? The campground at Fisherman's Memorial definitely has that vibe. Pitch your tent or park your RV and relax. One of the best parts of camping at Fisherman's Memorial is its close proximity to state beaches like Scarborough, Roger Wheeler, and Salty Brine.
Located in Charlestown, Burlingame State Park has beaches like Scarborough, Roger Wheeler, and Salty Brine. And you'll have an opportunity to explore them all if you set up camp here.
The George Washington Management Area encompasses 4,000 acres, 100 acres of which are dedicated to the camping area. This is a primitive camping area (water is available but not showers or electricity), but it's perfectly peaceful.
Ready to go camping? You can make a reservation at one of these beautiful areas here.
