Christmastime usually brings with it magical memories of years gone by when we dreamed of Santa making all of our wishes come true. We shopped at mom-and-pop shops, marveled as our town Christmas tree lit up for the first time, and counted down the days until Christmas morning. Feel the rush of nostalgia when you visit this charming town that’s perfect for an old-fashioned Christmas in Rhode Island.
Savor every merry moment of the Christmas season with a visit to Wickford Village, nestled in North Kingstown. The season officially kicks off with the lighting of the town Christmas tree.
Set for December 1, 2022 at 6 p.m. at Updike Park, the tree lighting sets the stage for a season of fun. Sip hot cocoa as you await Santa’s arrival at this beloved annual event.
The lighting of the tree signals the start of the 37th Annual Festival of Lights in Wickford Village, which will run from December 1-4 and includes a full menu of festive fun.
Santa makes his official arrival in Wickford Village by boat on Friday evening, and he’ll be around to pose for photos and listen to Christmas wishes at select times throughout the weekend.
That, however, is just a peek at the weekend fun that will include hayrides, an elf parade, and a performance by The Ladies of the Rolling Pin at Updike Park.
Be sure to stop by Smith’s Castle for Christmas at the Castle, slated for December 3-4 from noon to 4 p.m. Both days will feature a Colonial Wedding Reenactment at 12:15 p.m.
A jam-packed schedule of activities – colonial crafts, cookie decorating, a bake sale, and a Christmas bazaar – is planned for this old-fashioned Christmas event.
