This Scenic 10-Mile Drive Just May Be The Most Underrated Adventure In Rhode Island

If you’re looking for a scenic drive that has a little bit of everything, head straight to Newport, Rhode Island. The famous Ten-Mile Drive is more than just the coastal Ocean Drive. Take the trip with your eye wide open as coastal scenery, stunning homes, and expansive water views pass by when you embark on a trip down Ocean Drive, one of the best scenic drives in the USA .
The Ten-Mile Drive of Newport is best taken starting at Thames Street with the water on your right as you cruise along Ocean Drive and then end on Bellevue Avenue.
Much of this scenic trip is flanked with incredible views of the coastline. Whether you're absorbing the scenery of the bay or the Atlantic, the blue waters are likely to be dotted with sailboats and fishing craft.
The first leg of the trip wouldn't be complete without making a stop at Fort Adams State Park . Visit the largest coastal fort in the country and enjoy a tour, explore the tunnels, or stroll the waterfront bay walk.
As you continue south, this scenic trip takes you onto the historic Ocean Drive. There is plenty of parking available roadside if you want to get out and stretch your legs or soak in the scenery.
Brenton Point State Park is found along the way. Overlooking the Atlantic, this park beckons kite flying enthusiasts with its coast breezes.
If you've packed a picnic or are looking for a little beach time, Gooseberry Beach is a lovely stretch of sandy shore. Located within a small cove, the scenery is gorgeous and the surf is calm.
You'll catch sight of many inlets and coves. The rocky shoreline and blue water make a wonderful backdrop as you cruise along the pavement.
Of course, glimpses of the huge Newport summer homes will also grab your attention. But watch out for cyclists and cars pulled off to the side of Ocean Drive as you do your sightseeing.
The last leg of the trip takes you straight up Bellevue Avenue and into the heart of the Gilded Age. The tree-lined street is hiding Newport's mansions behind its wrought iron fences.
The mansions are truly a sight to see. The Marble House is a favorite with its stately columns and towering architecture. If you're left longing for more, you can always turn around and take this scenic drive in reverse!
