Lisa loves animals and has dogs, rats, cats, guinea pigs, and snakes. She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). We may be in a small state, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t tons of beautiful parks in Rhode Island worth checking out. One that we love is the oceanfront Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown. Not only is this preserve a bird and wildlife sanctuary, it also has a museum, Visitor Center, and seven miles of trails to check out. This is an educational and family friendly spot that makes for a great family outing filled with both education and natural beauty.
This 325-acre oasis has been a protected preserve for nearly 75 years. It's such a beautiful place.
The hike up to the rock's peak is only about a mile, but it is pretty rocky and can be strenuous. Up top, you'll be 70 feet in the air and have incredible panoramic views. This is one of the best overlooks in Rhode Island.

It goes without saying that this place is heaven for nature photographers! You never know what kind of critters you'll get a glance of around here.
There are even guided bird walks you can check out on the sanctuary's calendar of events.
There's such a great variety of trails here. Some are paved and suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, others have more of a variety of terrain and are better-suited for experienced hikers.
If you plan on hiking the trails here, make sure to check in at the visitor center first.
This is one of the most beautiful, peaceful places in Rhode Island. It's a great spot to come any time of year to clear your head and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
