Come for the beaches and stay for the food. Rhode Island is well known for its extensive coastline, but did you know about the popular eateries dishing up fabulous food in the town of New Shoreham? Be prepared to tantalize your tastebuds!
The small town of New Shoreham, with a population of 1,050, can be found on the eastern side of Rhode Island’s Block Island.
New Shoreham takes its name from Shoreham, Kent, in England. Founded in 1672, it is the only town on Block Island. It has the distinct honor of being the smallest town in the smallest state in the United States. It is also host to some fine eating establishments.
The first culinary stop of the day is the 1661 Inn, to partake in the exquisite breakfast buffet.
If you are looking for a leisurely yet extravagant and filling meal, this is the place. Sit outside on the back patio overlooking the ocean for a magnificent view, when the weather is nice.

The buffet receives five stars for presentation and variety of foods.
Mimosas are included, and salmon is a favorite offering. Eggs and pancakes are also available. Salad greens are picked fresh from the restaurant’s garden. Receive a discounted brunch price if you are staying at the Inn. What a way to start the day!

Next on the agenda is Kimberly’s, which offers a wide variety of dishes including seafood, steak, pasta, salads, and more.
Kimberly’s has been a highly regarded fixture in New Shoreham since 2014. Kimberly Ward, the owner, previously nourished the New Shoreham community at Dead Eye Dick’s and Beachead, other notable restaurants in town.
Dine at Kimberly’s when they have live music, and don’t forget about the New Year’s Eve specials. You can even have your special event catered by Kimberly herself.
The menu also includes hot dogs and an assortment of bottled drinks with entertaining names. Sometimes you can even order a Lobster Shot, or two. In this case, a shot is a scrumptious bit of fresh lobster in a small plastic cup. In the fall, the food truck will cater your private event if you like.
When you are ready for dessert, pop in to The Ice Cream Place for a tasty treat.
The smell of freshly baked waffle cones wafts in the air as you enter. Try some of the more unique flavors like Muddy Boots, Mango Sorbet, or Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip yogurt. The Ice Cream Place also serves up tempting essentials that we know and love such as Butter Pecan or Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry. You can even find sugar-free flavors as well. After a hard day at the beach, you deserve it!
You are now well-equipped with delicious dining options for your visit to the small, charming town of New Shoreham, Rhode Island. Catch the next ferry over to Block Island to indulge yourself in all that New Shoreham has to offer. To finalize your dining plans, visit the 1661 Inn website, Kimberly’s website, the Southeast Light Delights Facebook page, or The Ice Cream Place Facebook page.
