Located in North Smithfield, Wright’s Dairy Farm has been in business for over a century. But while the dairy farm does produce some excellent milk (and ice cream), it’s far from the only reason to visit. The onsite bakery is truly the stuff dreams are made of. In fact, it’s one of the best bakeries in Rhode Island!
Technically, Wright's Dairy Farm has been around since 1896, when the first deed for the current farm property was recorded in North Smithfield.

By the early 1900s, the farm had chickens, pigs, horses, and around a dozen cows. Back then, the milk was delivered (raw) to local homes daily. By 1914, the farm was more established, and more cows were added to the lineup.
In the 1970s, the family opened a retail farm store.
When Claire started baking and selling pies and cream puffs using family recipes, they were a huge hit. The bakery officially opened a few years later, and the rest is history.

These days, Wright's Dairy Farm & Bakery is open to the public daily.
One of my favorite things to get here is a pizza strip. If you've never heard of a pizza strip, it's essentially a rectangular piece of pizza with just sauce. However, Wright's does offer a few variations, some of which include cheese.

I grew up in RI and prefer the traditional without cheese.
Aside from pizza strips, the bakery specializes in cupcakes, cream pastries, flaky pastries, pies, bars, sweet rolls, cookies, and cakes.
Flavors often change with the seasons since the ingredients stay fresh, so you'll see berry pies in the summer and pumpkin treats in the fall.

Another must-try item is the hermits from Wright's. Hermits are old-fashioned cookies that are soft and made with ginger, molasses, and raisins. Trust me, they are so good!

If you've got a special occasion coming up, just place an order with the cake shop and let them handle it.

What are some of the best bakeries in Rhode Island?
Some of the best bakeries in Rhode Island, aside from the Wright’s Dairy Farm Bakery, are the following places:
Death by Chocolate Cake from Gregg’s Restaurants. If you’ve never had it before you should head to the nearest Gregg’s and buy an entire cake. So good!
Doughboys, specifically from Iggy’s.
Zeppoles. You can find some of the best at LaSalle Bakery.
Cannoli from just about any Italian bakery in the state.
Awful Awfuls from Newport Creamery. If you know, you know…
