This Rhode Island state park, for example, offers a full menu of amenities, including the opportunity to cross through a one-of-a-kind covered bridge and over a fairy-tale footbridge. With more than 3,000 acres, Charlestown's Burlingame State Park appeals to adventurers of all kinds - hikers, campers, boaters, and beach-goers.
The popular state park in Rhode Island, which sits along Watchaug Pond, is perhaps best known for its sizeable campground. With more than 700 "rustic campsites" and cabins, the park provides an idyllic backdrop for a getaway.
Whether you're spending the day or camping out, carve out some time to follow the picturesque Vin Gormley Trail, a nearly eight-mile loop trail that scores a moderate rating.
However, the challenges - mostly rocky terrain and roots jutting up from the ground - are generally easy to overcome. (You'll be well-rewarded with sensational scenery, too.)
The Perry Healy Brook Bridge, however, has a surprise. (It's not officially a covered bridge either. Rhode Island is home to a lone covered bridge, Swamp Meadow Covered Bridge in Foster.)

While you're pretty much guaranteed gorgeous scenery, you'll probably want to be prepared for a few things. The warmer months mean a lot of bugs, so lather on the bug spray and bring some along.
Wintertime usually means absolute serenity, especially after a snowfall. However, you'll have to deal with an ungroomed path. (Just another adventure, right?)
