Living in Rhode Island is a dream for most of us, and if you’re a film buff? Well, it’s a piece of paradise. After all, quite a few Hollywood flicks – Meet Joe Black, Dan In Real Life, and Amistad, among them – have been filmed throughout Rhode Island. Did you know that parts of Hocus Pocus 2 were also filmed in Newport, Rhode Island?
Starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, the original Hocus Pocus debuted in movie theaters during the summer of 1993 and has since become a cult classic.
If you’ve not seen this iconic film yet, it follows the misadventures of the three lead actresses – witches who were executed in the 17th century – who have been resurrected by a teen on Halloween night in Salem, Massachusetts.
The much-anticipated follow-up, Hocus Pocus 2, hit streaming platforms in late September 2022. If you’ve seen the film, you might have recognized some familiar Rhode Island destinations.
This time the trio of witches is resurrected in modern day Salem. With a bit of Hollywood magic, Newport’s Washington Square transformed into the Salem of today. For Salem of yesteryear, the film used Chase Farm Park in Lincoln.
Newport wasn’t the only Rhode Island town in which Hocus Pocus 2 was filmed. Filming also took place at the Cranston Street Armory, Benefit Street, and LaSalle Academy in Providence.
