Soaking up Rhode Island’s natural beauty is oh-so-easy. We can stroll along the sandy shore, go on a picturesque drive, or visit this one-of-a-kind lookout tower in Rhode Island. While we might not be able to see another state when we reach the top, we will be treated to some absolutely gorgeous views. What’s more, this one-of-a-kind tower comes with its own tragic tale.
Towering over the Tower Hill Road and Bridgetown Road intersection in South Kingstown, Hannah Robinson Rock & Tower is easy to spot.
The tower comes with a tragic tale, a legend that most locals know. It was named after Hannah Robinson, who was born to a wealthy Rhode Island businessman in 1746.
By all accounts, Hannah enjoyed a privileged life, one that would abruptly change when she fell in love with one of her teachers. The man, of course, was in a vastly different financial league than Hannah's family.
Hannah's father vehemently disapproved of the relationship, disowning his daughter after she and her love eloped. A happy ending, however, was not meant to be.
Meander just a short distance from Hannah's tower, where you will find a rock. Hannah is said to have sat on this rock (or one like it) when she was younger, gazing out over Narragansett Bay.
