If you’re a dedicated waterfall chaser, you may think that you’ve seen them all in Rhode Island. But this pretty little waterfall is tucked away on an often overlooked natural area in the Ocean State. Just off of Route 44 in Greenville lies the Ken Weber Conservation Area at Cascade Brook. Nestled away inside this woodland property is a waterfall reachable by a one-mile trail. Are you ready to get started?
Take a woodland walk through the Ken Weber Conservation Area to reach one of Rhode Island's little-known waterfalls. The 27-acre forested property is one of the state's hidden gems.
The one-mile trail is clearly marked with blue blazes. Ken Weber and his wife, Bettie, laid out the path marking trees and rocks so it is easy to follow.
The loop trail winds throughout the woodland up and down small hills and across natural rock formations. You don't need to be an athlete to make the journey but you'll be thankful for a sturdy pair of walking shoes to make the trip easier.
In the heart of the forest, you'll begin to hear the gurgle of water and this is your clue you've almost reached the waterfall. The ten-foot plunge cascades over a rock ledge and into a shallow pool below.
The sight of Cascade Brook tumbling over the rocks is a delightful find. Except in the very driest of weeks, there is always the sight and sound of this oasis to greet hikers.
After you've spend some time at the waterfall, continue on the trail to encounter the remains of a stone house. The four-fireplace chimney dates back over 100 years.
The Ken Weber Conservation Area at Cascade Brook can be found off of Mapleville Road. Follow the sign for Village at Waterman Lake until the paved roadway ends. You should then see the sign for the conservation area.
If you’re looking to spend a little bit more time in Rhode Island’s great outdoors, then load up the car and head out on this two-day adventure full of hiking, kayaking, and camping.
