While this is definitely not the case, there are several breathtakingly beautiful islands to visit along the smallest state’s brilliant coast. While some offer beautiful nature trails, others buzz with history and nightlife, and yet others still offer charming summer communities and lighthouses to gaze upon. Here are 7 islands in Rhode Island that are definitely worth visiting!
1. Aquidneck Island
Aquidneck Island is a stunning place to visit for oh so many reasons! Not only is it home to Newport, one of Rhode Island's most historically rich and stunning cities, but it also homes both Portsmouth and Middletown. Lovely beaches, colonial homes, gilded age mansions, and more are always waiting to be explored here.
2. Conanicut Island
Conanicut Island is the second largest island in Narraganset Bay and is one of the most stunning places to visit in the entire state. The island comprises the town of Jamestown.
3. Block Island
The charming small town of New Shoreham is found on Block Island and is a heavily sought out attraction in the summer months. Amazing beaches, a breathtaking nature reserve, lighthouses, amazing restaurants and more are all found here.
4. Goat Island
Goat Island is a lovely island and part of the city of Newport. The name was established after the 17th century practice of the settlers of Newport used the island for goat herding.
5. Rose Island
This small, delightful island is home to one of the state's oldest lighthouses. Rose Island Light was built in 1870 and is wonderful to visit during the summer.
6. Prudence Island
Prudence Island is part of the town of Portsmouth and is the third largest island in Narraganset Bay. The island is home to several summer colonies and boasts beautiful seaside views.
7. Coasters Harbor Island
This 92 acre island is home to the U.S. Naval War College. It's found in beautiful Narraganset Bay.
