Economic development often has plenty of perks. However, it certainly has a few downsides, too, including driving local wildlife out of their natural habitats. Fortunately, Rhode Island is home to numerous wildlife preserves that provide a place for local wildlife to find refuge from development and for nature lovers to experience the outdoors in all of its glory. Hodge Family Wildlife Preserve, a beautiful wildlife preserve in New Shoreham, Rhode Island, is a must-visit next time you’re yearning for a bit of time in nature.
Catch a ferry to Block Island for an outdoor adventure at Hodge Family Wildlife Preserve, a tiny but mighty natural area that measures just 25 acres and promises breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
The best way to explore this natural attraction is on a leisurely stroll along its lone walking trail. Wear comfy shoes, but don’t expect anything too challenging on this path that leads to sensational views.
Along the way to the water, you’ll pass meadows brimming with flowers, such as goldenrod, common aster, and butter and eggs. Stop to smell the flowers, but remember to only bring out with you what you take in.
Once you’ve explored Hodge Family Wildlife Preserve, stroll or drive just over half of a mile to Clay Head Nature Preserve. Spanning nearly 200 acres, the preserve offers sensational views of the ocean.
Have you been to Hodge Family Wildlife Preserve, a beautiful wildlife preserve in New Shoreham, Rhode Island? What did you think? Share your experience in the comments! While you’re on Block Island and Corn Neck Road, stop by the Sacred Labyrinth, a hidden gem in New Shoreham, Rhode Island.
