No matter what trail in Rhode Island we follow, we’re usually guaranteed one thing: Absolutely amazing views. It doesn’t matter if we’re exploring a beachy area or a hidden state park. We can pretty much find whatever we’re looking for when it comes to hiking in Rhode Island. For some of those jaw-dropping views, mixed with a bit of a challenge, follow the Mount Tom Trail.
Unlike some trails that promise few run-ins with other hikers, you're likely to cross paths with your fellow adventurers quite a few times along the 6.7-mile Mount Tom Trail.
With its views and modest challenges, the loop trail is a popular one with hikers, backpackers, horse riders, and, in the winter, cross-country skiers.
While you might not be climbing tall mountains like trails in other states, you'll still be treated to some gorgeous views. You might even feel as though you're exploring among the clouds.
Consider wearing a pair of sturdy hiking boots, especially if you want to climb and explore the rocks on the path. Just expect varied terrain, icy spots in the winter, and muddy areas after the rain.
