4 Freshwater Beaches In Rhode Island That’ll Make You Feel Like You’re At The Ocean
Rhode Island is known as the Ocean State, and for good reason… the ocean beaches here are truly second to none. However, you don’t have to be planted a few feet from the Atlantic to have a great beach day. Our state also has plenty of freshwater beaches that often feel like the ocean itself. These are a few of our favorites.

Ninigret Park is a family-friendly swimming destination featuring a saltwater tidal pond protected from the ocean by a long barrier beach. The water is so clear, you can sometimes see the fish swimming near you. Lifeguards are on duty all summer, and the park is also home to a playground, baseball fields, basketball courts, a nature center, and a small observatory.

Spring Lake Beach is probably Rhode Island's most famous freshwater beach. This nostalgic swimming hole is located in Burrillville, and it has a concessions stand, restrooms, and fun slides near the water's edge. The old-fashioned arcade is the only thing that can lure young swimmers out of the water.

This six acre beach is located in Coventry. It's a quiet, peaceful place with picnic tables, lifeguards in the summer, and plenty of space to swim. The swimming area is open from dawn to dusk in the summer.

Lincoln Woods State Park is one of Rhode Island's most famous gems. The freshwater beach is always a great place to swim on a warm summer day, and plenty of people actually prefer it to being at the ocean. Lifeguards are on duty here in the summertime.
