The Incredible Rhode Island Park You’ll Want To Visit Over And Over Again

Rhode Island has some of the most incredible historic sites in the country, and many are free to visit. Here’s a state park that offers plenty to see and do, and you can visit over and over and learn something new with every visit.
Fort Adams State Park is a fascinating part of America's history, and there's plenty to see and do here. You'll find the park at 80 Fort Adams Dr., Newport, RI 02840.
The park is home to the largest coastal fort in the country, which functioned as an Army post from 1841 to 1950. You'll want to tour this incredible fort; tours run daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
The tour takes you deep inside the fort, where you'll see the officers' quarters, and walk through some of the tunnels under the fort.
Check out the munitions and learn about the 180 years of history here. Tours cost $12 for adults; $6 for children, or $30 per family.
You can also visit the Eisenhower House - the home that served as President Eisenhower's "Summer White House" during his time as President. It's open for self-guided tours every Monday from 11:00 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m..
Pay your respects at the military cemetery on the grounds.
Take the Fort Adams Bay Walk, which takes you 2.5 miles around the perimeter. You'll have some excellent views of the harbor, bridge and bay.
You can even get a close-up view along the way.
The fort is the site of several events throughout the year, including the Newport Jazz Festival and Newport Folk Festival, where you'll enjoy tasty food and excellent music.
The fort also hosts reenactments, where you can get an even better idea of what it would have been like to live at the fort during times of war and conflict.
Admission to the grounds of Fort Adams State Park is free! You can enjoy this beautiful, historic place as often as you'd like.
