Far West Bar In Rhode Island Was Once A Jewelry Factory, And Now It's A Gem
If you’ve ever been inside Far West in Providence, you know it has a unique character, thanks in part to its eclectic vintage decor. Hanging out in this speakeasy-like space feels a bit like drinking in a relative’s home — if your relatives are both rich and quirky. And if you look around, you’ll notice a few leftover items from the building’s days as a jewelry factory.

The owners, Michele Fryer and Luke Tabor, didn't intend for their bar to be a speakeasy, but that's the way this space is set up.

It's a bit tricky at first, but it's well worth making the effort.

When Fryer and Tabor were designing the space, they noticed the building contained a lot of artifacts and cabinetry from its days as a jewelry factory. They put it to good use.

The bar really stands out, even in this richly decorated space.

Luckily, the drinks here never disappoint. Tabor, who has years of industry experience, is the bartender, and the cocktails are both creative and delicious.

Of course, you're more than welcome to order a glass of wine or even a mocktail if you'd rather not imbibe.

Sometimes you'll see local favorite Hotline Pizza selling slices here as well. Also, it's worth noting that all the flowers and herbs used at the bar (for food, drinks, and decor) are harvested from Fryer's community garden plot in the neighborhood.
