Any time is a good time for a road trip in Rhode Island. Wouldn’t you agree? After all, our beautiful state looks absolutely stunning in all four seasons. If you’re ready to hit the road and explore our beautiful state, we highly recommend heading south and checking out some of the most magical places in Rhode Island.
We’ve put together a little road trip that’s big on beauty. You can easily complete this trek in a few hours, but we recommend making a full day trip out of it.
Ready to hit the highway on one of the best road trips in Rhode Island? One of the best things about Rhode Island road trips is we don't need a whole lot of time. You can conceivably complete this road trip in a single day (but you might want to make it over a few days). Drive time is just two hours as you cover more than 65 miles. Remember to add in time for each stop. Off we go!
First, head all the way down to Little Compton and visit Sakonnet Point. Sakonnet Point is the southern most point in Little Compton, offering sweeping ocean views (and quite possibly some bird sightings). You might notice several rocky islands just off the point as well. Don't forget your camera; you're about to see some absolutely amazing sites when you visit these fairytale places in Rhode Island. Next, drive to the wildly underrated Purgatory Chasm in Middletown. Glaciers formed Purgatory Chasm thousands of years ago, and seawater has been eroding the fissure ever since. The Newport Cliff Walk is, without a doubt, one of Rhode Island's most magical places in Rhode Island. The entire trek takes around two to three hours to walk, but if you don't have the time, you can always park the car and walk a mile down the picturesque path. 4. Beavertail State Park, Jamestown

Up next, drive to Jamestown and check out Beavertail State Park (bonus points if you arrive close to dusk). This waterfront park is equipped with its own secret beaches, hiking trails, and even mid-1800s lighthouse. Speaking of lighthouses, you'll definitely want to end your scenic journey with a drive to Narragansett. The Point Judith Lighthouse is located on the west side of the entrance to Narragansett Bay, and the present lighthouse dates all the way back to 1856.
