There are plenty of short hikes to be had all over the Ocean State. But if you’re looking for a longer trek with plenty of varied terrains, the DuVal Trail is a great fit. At just over six miles round trip, this hike will get your blood flowing and treat you to splendid natural scenery while taking a trip past a long-forgotten cemetery.
Hike the DuVal trail system that spans several properties protected by the South Kingston Land Trust. Lace up your hiking boots, there are hills to climb and quite a few miles ahead of you.
History buffs will be interested in the old cemetery along the way. Names such as Browning and Perry can be found inscribed on the headstones in this burial ground.
Find the trailhead from Route 1 southbound. Take the second exit marked Post Road/ Perryville and bear right onto Post Road continuing for 0.4 miles. The parking area will be on the left. Learn more by visiting the South Kingstown Land Trust website.
