One of the coolest things about taking a good hike is all the good surprises along the way! You never know what is just waiting to be discovered out in the woods or down by the water. One hike that has a lot of cool history is the Monastery Trail in Cumberland Rhode Island!
The trail is named after the Monastery that used to sit on this land. After enduring severe fire damage in 1950, the Monks moved out, and in 1976 the remains of the monastery were built upon to create a large library and meeting rooms.
Be sure to pay attention to trail maps and markers if you choose to stray off the main loop path. While the side trails are a lot of fun, it can be easy to get turned around!
You can also find remnants of the Monastery out there like old stones from the quarry that remained unused, or even this awesome old bike that has been here for untold years!
The trails feature marsh land, ponds and forest, and are home to many types of wildlife so make sure to keep your eyes peeled and look both up and down to spot some creatures you might not see otherwise.
We imagine there must be even more out there to be found if you have a discerning eye. Does hiking the Cumberland Monastery Trail sound like a fun way to spend a day to you?
