Rhode Island food is definitely unique – we enjoy plenty of dishes that are uncommon in the rest of New England, let alone the country. And we have strong opinions about all of these foods, from the way they’re prepared to the best places to get them! If you grew up in the Ocean State, then we can guarantee that you’ve eaten these dishes – and almost definitely love them.
1. Clam Cakes
We can't figure out why clam cakes haven't caught on everywhere else - how can you go wrong with fried dough filled with clams? These treats are quintessentially Rhode Island, and we can't get enough.
2. Hot Weiners
Don't you dare confuse these with a hotdog. A true hot weiner is made of veal and pork, topped with celery salt, onions, mustard, and meat sauce. "All the way" is the only way!
3. Coffee Milk
Whether you prefer Autocrat or Eclipse syrup, we can all agree that coffee milk is far superior to chocolate milk.
4. Stuffies
Stuffed quahogs are the perfect appetizer - salty, perfectly textured, and all around delectable.
5. Pizza Strips
Pizza strips, party pizza –
whatever you call it, this delightful Rhode Island favorite proves that you don't need cheese for delicious pizza.
6. Awful Awful
It's not a milkshake - it's an Awful Awful. Awful big, and awful good! Newport Creamery has been making these delicious icy beverages forever, and it's hard to live in Rhode Island without occasionally indulging.
7. Johnny Cakes
These cornmeal pancakes are unbelievably delicious, and to many of us taste like childhood.
8. Doughboys
When you take pizza dough, fry it, and coat it in sugar, you end up with a truly magical concoction that's awfully hard to turn down.
9. Del's Lemonade
This tasty frozen lemonade is the taste of summer in Rhode Island. Just be careful to drink it slowly, or you'll get really epic brain freeze!
