The holiday season is officially upon us. And if you’re a Rhode Islander, particularly a Newport local, you know what that means — the magnificent Newport Mansions are all decked out for the season of wonder. If you have yet to experience these dazzling decked halls for yourself, make this the year you go.
The Newport Mansions are a collection of lavish historic homes owned by the Preservation Society of Newport County.
Most of the mansions are located are located within a short distance of one another on or near Bellevue Avenue.
Not only are the mansions themselves amazing, but many of them face the bay.
Needless to say, there's never a bad time to tour these impressive structures.
But if you've never been inside the mansions during the holiday season, you owe it to yourself to go.
You'll think you've stepped straight into the set of a classic Christmas movie.
Christmas at the Newport Mansions kicks off in November and wraps up on New Years Day.
During this time, you can tour three magnificent mansions, which have been fully decked out in holiday splendor.
The Breakers, The Elms, and Marble House are all National Historic Landmarks, and during the holiday season, they look especially enchanting.
All three mansions are available for daily tours from 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. until around 5 p.m. They will also be closed on special holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Aside from the special tours, the mansions will be hosting a series of holiday events as well.
Holiday Evenings at the Newport Mansions include special musical performances, and the annual Holiday Dinner Dance is December 21. The dance is sold out, which is impressive considering tickets cost $400 per person for non-members.
If you have little ones in your life, bring them to the Newport Mansions on Sundays in December for a special meet & greet with Santa Claus.
Santa will visit each of the three houses on successive Sunday afternoons in December to listen to those wish lists. He will be at The Breakers December 1, Marble House December 8, and The Elms on December 15 (all from 12 - p.m.).
Last but certainly not least, you won't want to miss seeing The Nutcracker at Rosecliff from November 27 - December 6.
The Newport Mansions really embrace the holiday season, and a visit here is bound to help anyone get into the Christmas spirit.
