Even if we spend the coldest months of the year counting down to spring, we can probably agree – albeit somewhat begrudgingly if we’re not a fan of the cold – that winter in Rhode Island is absolutely magical too. Carve out some time this winter to lace up your skates and go ice skating in Providence, Rhode Island. It’s perhaps one of the most relaxing and enchanting ways to spend a winter day and one of the best things to do in winter in Rhode Island.
While summer may mean long leisurely days at the beach, winter in Rhode Island promises just as much fun - from tubing to sledding. For an enchanting winter adventure, head to The Providence Rink at BankNewport City Center.
If you can't make it ice skating this winter, no worries. The Providence Rink offers roller skating and roller hockey in the warmer months. Or get your groove on with a bit of Roller Disco, held annually from June through the end of October.
Slip on a pair of rental ice skates (or bring your own) for a three-hour ice skating session. As long as the weather allows, the Providence Rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from early December through mid-March.
However, the ice rink sometimes hosts special events, and the day's hours may change as a result.

Don't worry if you've never ice skated or feel a bit unsteady on the ice. Fireworks Skating Academy offers both private and group lessons at the Providence Rink.
If you're driving to the Providence Rink, park at one of the nearby lots, such as the Union Station Parking Garage or the Providence Place Mall Parking Garage.
