A lot of people may not know it, but for a long time, a good chunk of the city of Providence was underwater! Much of the downtown area was a shipping port and slowly the water got pushed back to give us the beautiful city we have now. The Providence river is a relic of that past and walking along it is a much beloved activity for locals and travelers alike. But did you know you can take a boat down the river as well? It’s a great way to take in the beauty of the city in a way that you might not normally and there are some great companies with all types of options for boat tours if you don’t have a boat of your own to take.
