History whispers throughout Pennsylvania. Some of that history, in fact, even resurfaces now and then at the many haunted places in the state. If you’ve been hoping to experience the paranormal, pull up a chair at this tavern in Pennsylvania; sip a glass of wine, and enjoy a meal. Maybe, if you’re lucky, you’ll catch sight of one of the tavern’s friendly visitors from beyond.
Stouch Tavern in Womelsdorf has been around for more than two centuries. It survived a tragic fire in 1973 but was restored to its former glory.
The tavern served as a post office and a stage coach stop during its storied history. Its most famous guest was George Washington, who spent the night in the tavern's sleeping quarters.
Perhaps that's why the proprietors of the tavern have named their friendly ghost George. While you might not see George during your visit to Stouch Tavern, you might experience some, well, weird things.
You might notice, for example, your silverware mysteriously moves, or you might hear footsteps, turn around, and find...no one there. Faucets are also said to turn on when no one's around.
Even if you're skeptical about the paranormal, you're still guaranteed a delicious meal at the charming tavern. Start your meal with a fresh Caesar or spinach salad, or...
...just go straight for the main entree. Stouch Tavern's menu features filet mignon, baked stuffed flounder, and the broiled seafood plate, for example.
