Time for a blast from the past, PA! Virtual hands up if you remember the local five and dimes of yesteryear? Woolworth’s and G.C. Murphy were probably two of the most popular in Pennsylvania. In fact, we could find just about everything we needed and wanted at the five and dime – from candy and toys to home goods and holiday decorations. Most of the five and 10s are long gone now. But, a few – like this old school variety store in Pennsylvania – remain, making it the perfect place to visit when you’re in the mood for a dose of nostalgia.
Let the nostalgia wash over you when you visit Sine's 5 & 10 in Quakerstown, a neighborhood favorite since 1912 that features a classic soda fountain.
And, where did we always start our visit to the 5 & 10 when we were kids? In the candy section, of course! Stock up on some of your old favorites, including circus peanuts and hard candies.
Remember the old cloth calendars? You'll find 'em at the 5 & 10, too, along with knickknacks, dishware, and light bulbs. Oh, and if you need an extra key made, have it done at Sine's 5 & 10.
Then, after you've explored the 5 & 10, slide onto one of the stools at the soda fountain. Dig into a delicious breakfast or lunch like the soda's fountain's most popular meal: hamburger BBQ and potato salad.
Of course, you can't stop at a soda fountain without indulging in a treat. Try a milkshake, a float, or a cold glass of soda (or pop, depending on where in the state you live).
