Most people probably don’t associate Pennsylvania with majestic castles, but we’ve got more than our fair share – from Hyeholde Restaurant to the Carnegie Library of Homestead. Countless gems lie hidden in castles – like this winery in Pennsylvania. Spend a few hours, or even an entire day, at this hidden gem winery that’s pours some of the best locally-made wine in Pennsylvania.
Nestled in a castle in Erwinna, Sand Castle Winery has been a local favorite since 1975. However, this isn’t your typical Pennsylvania winery.
With 72 acres on the Delaware River, the winery grows all of its own grapes. All of the wines you sample and purchase are made from grapes grown right on site. The winery grows four types of European vinifera grapes.
That’s just one characteristic that makes Sand Castle so unique. Another is the location itself – an enchanting 21,000-square foot castle that will make you feel like royalty.
Just as impressive, the wine cellar spans 7,000 square feet, and you can sample just a bit of all it has to offer at one of the castle’s wine tastings.
Wine tastings are held daily and last one hour. Learn more about the wines as you sample a dozen estate-grown wines. Private wine tastings are also available.
Once you’ve chosen your favorite samples, you’ll likely want to purchase bottles to take with you. Sand Castle’s selection of wines includes Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
