Safety plays a significant role in all of our lives. After all, we all want to keep ourselves and our families safe. It’s probably fair to say that safety is a serious consideration when we decide to move to another town in Pennsylvania or relocate from another state. Safewise recently released its list of the top 10 safest cities to live in Pennsylvania. Here’s what it found.
An online security resource, Safewise recently published the results of its seventh annual Safest Cities in America report. It studied each of the 50 states, identifying the top 50 safest cities in each.
Safewise used a variety of resources to compile the report, which also included feedback from everyday Americans. The most prominent data Safewise used was the FBI Crime Report Statistics from 2019, its most recent information.
Data was divided into two parts – violent crimes and property crimes. Violent crimes encompassed murder, aggravated assault, robbery, and rape. Property crimes included motor vehicle theft, burglary, and larceny theft.
Pennsylvanians also had the opportunity to respond to a national survey to determine what crimes – violent crime, property crime, gun violence, and package theft – concerned them the most.
Compared to the rest of the United States, Pennsylvania has a lower overall crime rate. However, gun violence has increased each year, and Pennsylvanians are more concerned about their safety than other Americans.
Nearly 50 percent of Pennsylvanians shared that they are worried that crime might happen to them. Forty-five percent were most concerned about property crime; 44 percent worried about gun violence with 43 percent stressed about violent crime.
Data from 136 Pennsylvania cities were studied with Safewise identifying the top 50. However, let’s take a look at the top 10 safest places to live in Pennsylvania in 2021.
Upper Providence Township in Delaware County, Buckingham Township, Millcreek Township in Lebanon County, East Brandywine Township, Lower Salford Township, Spring Township in Centre County, and West Cocalico Township rounded out the top 10.
