Have you ever noticed that it tends to rain on special events? We’ve all likely had plans for a special day outdoors, woke up, and…rain. Well, one farmer in Pennsylvania once complained to his local pharmacist that it seemed to rain every year on his birthday. From that year on, that pharmacist decided to keep track of whether it rained on July 29, and eventually that tradition turned into a beloved local festival in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
Rain has fallen in Waynesburg 117 out of 149 years between 1874 and 2022, but the question is: Will it rain on the Rain Day Festival in 2023?
Have a little one? Sign her up for the Little Miss Rain Drop contest. Contestants are divided into age groups – 6-8 years, 9-11 years, and 12-13 years. There will also be a Baby Rain Day Contest for the littlest residents.
Everyone can get in on the fun by entering the Umbrella Decorating Contest while the kiddos can take part in the Rain Day Color Contest. Ages groups for the coloring contest are 5-8 and 9-12.
Dig into some delicious food, too, from one of the food trucks or other food vendors. A variety of vendors selling goods will also be on hand. The evening will end with an epic fireworks show.
