While we have a lone waterfall, Fall Run Falls, in Allegheny County, we’re pretty fortunate to be within easy driving distance of quite a few gorgeous cascades. When you set off on this waterfall staircase hike near Pittsburgh, you won’t have too far to travel. However, every step of the way is drenched in natural beauty, culminating in arriving at the base of one of Pennsylvania’s most well-known and beloved waterfalls.
Cucumber Falls, nestled in Ohiopyle State Park, may be the park's most famous waterfall - along with Ohiopyle Falls - making it more than worthy of a visit.
Keep an eye out for the sign that tells you you've arrived at the falls, and pull into one of spaces in the small parking lot. The good news is, if you don't feel like hiking, you can get an aerial view of Cucumber Falls from the parking lot.
However, if you're up for it, you'll definitely want to set off on the .02-mile trail that's rated easy. Just be prepared to walk along some uneven terrain, including picturesque rock stairs.
Take your time as you go down the stairs, and admire the foliage - lush green in the spring and summer and vibrant colors in the autumn - as you make your way to the base of the waterfall.
