Pittsburghers are known as hard workers. That’s just how we were raised. Many of us grew up without the internet and smartphones. We couldn’t just go to Google to research. We actually had to go to the library. That taught us about hard work, which we passed on to the next generation.
Steel mills once drove Pittsburgh’s economy. When the steel mills began shutting down, Pittsburgh didn’t give up. Instead, the city and Pittsburghers helped Pittsburgh transform into a powerhouse in the medical and industrial industries.

Pittsburgh certainly has seen its fair share of adversity – dating back to the St. Patrick’s Day Flood of 1936. Despite the devastation of the flood, Pittsburghers rebuilt the city. And that’s just what we’ve done with every other tragedy Pittsburgh has faced.

All Pittsburghers have gone through their fair share of tragedy and adversity. Yet, despite the bad, we always have a smile for each other and for strangers.
Sure, it’s an old and tired cliché, but it’s true. Most of us, as kids, had to go to school even after a snowstorm and we lived through horribly hot days in the classroom without air conditioning. We might have been uncomfortable and cranky, but those bad weather experiences certainly helped toughen us up.
