We’ve had to say goodbye to quite a few restaurants in the Pittsburgh-area since the pandemic hit in March of 2020. Pork & Beans, NOLA on the Square, and The Original Hot Dog Shop are just a few of the popular restaurants that closed their doors for good. Others continue to struggle as the pandemic drags on. Two Pittsburgh restaurants, in particular, can’t afford to be lost, according to Esquire.
In the final days of 2020, Esquire released a list of what it deemed the 100 Restaurants America Can’t Afford To Lose.
Two Pittsburgh restaurants – J&J’s Family Restaurant in Mount Washington and Tessaro’s on Liberty Avenue – made the list. If you like a good home-cooked meal, you’ll definitely want to make your way to J&J’s Family Restaurant. For a good burger, head over to Tessaro’s.
J&J’s Family Restaurant earned a spot on the list because of its cozy atmosphere, where diners feel like one of the family. It, of course, also boasts a delicious assortment of breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes.
Homemade soup, a selection of burgers, and salads are all on the menu. If you’re up for something a bit different, try the peanut butter bacon burger or the deep-fried pickles.
Tessaro’s, on the other hand, received recognition for its burgers, paired perfectly with beer. The menu boasts eight burgers, all “fired over hardwood.”
The difficult part will be deciding which burger to order – the Breakfast, the Barbecue, or the Deli Burger. Classic burgers and cheeseburgers are also on the menu.
You can also choose from a variety of sandwiches, salads, steaks, and ribs. Whatever you order, you have some scrumptious sides that will complete the meal. Try such favorites as home fries, potato salad, and coleslaw.
What other Pittsburgh restaurants do you think America can’t afford to lose? Do you agree that J&J’s Family Restaurant and Tessaro’s should be on the list? Join the conversation in the comments! Next time you’re craving Mexican and soul food, make your way to MexiSoul in Monaca.
