Lace up your hiking shoes for this fairy tale hike in Pittsburgh. The Sunken Garden Trail features three loop options of varying distances.

The shorter routes around the Sunken Garden Trail, lush with green grass, shrubs, and trees, span 1.9 miles and 2.4 miles respectively.

Meanwhile, the longest loop through the Sunken Garden Trail spans 3.6 miles. While each loop trail is rated as easy, the longest loop does pose some challenges.

Expect to work a little harder when hiking the longest loop on the trail. You'll be faced with what the DCNR describes as "rugged terrain."

However, each loop along the blue blazes will take you on some moderate inclines as you pass blossoming wildflowers.

The Sunken Garden Trail kicks off near Lake Arthur, dotted with lily pads, in Moraine State Park. Since it's rated easy, the trail is ideal for hikers of all ages and of all skill levels.

Dogs are permitted on the trail as long as they remain on their leash. During the winter, the trail is often used by cross-country skiers while predominately being used by walkers and hikers the rest of the year.
