Dining out sure can add up and take a pretty significant chunk out of our budget. Sometimes, though, we can find hidden gems that promise a delicious meal in a cozy setting and prices so affordable that we might forget what decade we’re in. Visit Ritter’s Diner in Pittsburgh, a throwback to the 1950s, and you just might discover your new favorite go-to spot for a scrumptious, affordable meal.
Tucked on Baum Boulevard in Bloomfield, Ritter's Diner has been a popular neighborhood eatery since it opened in 1951.
Ritter's also offers that old-school experience, something (along with the fantastic food) that keeps my daughter and me coming back for more. The servers are friendly, always up for a bit of a chat, and it's a cozy, family-friendly restaurant.

Slip into one of the chairs at the counter, or opt for a comfy booth. Although it looks snug from the outside, Ritter's Diner is quite spacious.
Kick off your meal with a piping hot bowl of soup or homemade chili, or such delectable appetizers as fried green tomatoes, onion rings, and pierogies.
Ritter's dishes up some of the best French fries in Pittsburgh. Even if you're ordering breakfast, consider adding a side of fries. The helpings are quite generous, too. A double helping of fries filled a dinner plate.
As you're enjoying an appetizer, consider what you'll have for the main course. Ritter's Diner serves all of the traditional diner favorites — from sandwiches and melts to burgers and gyros.
If you're a fan of grilled cheese, try Ritter's. The grilled cheese sandwiches are always perfectly grilled with just the right amount of cheese. Pair it with fries for - *chef's kiss* - a delightful comfort meal.
Don't forget to check out the hearty dinners, too. Chicken tenders, meatloaf, and turkey are among your choices.
Because the portions are hefty, you'll likely fill up and might even have leftovers. Even if you're stuffed, try to squeeze in some room for a slice of homemade pie.
