A Pittsburgh original, thumbprints first appeared in the city in 1980, made by Kevin Ulrich of Kaufmann's Arcade Bakery. And, for decades, Pittsburghers frequented the Arcade Bakery to stock up on their favorite thumbprint cookies.
Of course, you can't stop at Prantl's without grabbing a burnt almond torte cake for the road. Or, try other goodies, such as junior pastries, cookies, and donuts.
