Crisper days signal the start of autumn, one of the most beautiful seasons in Pittsburgh. Those cooler days usually mean spending more time outdoors, soaking up the golden sunshine, before the chilled days of winter arrive. Embrace the return of autumn with an apple-picking adventure at Norman’s Orchard near Pittsburgh.
Stretched across 55 cozy acres, Norman's Orchard in Tarentum offers a picture-perfect backdrop for ushering in the fall.
A popular destination since the late 1950s, Norman's Orchard offers a fun and relaxing way to spend an hour or two. Started and run by Ken Norman until his death, the orchard is now headed by Jeff and Leslie Norman.
Norman's Orchard grows more than two dozen apple varieties, the majority of them heirloom. You'll find such popular apple varieties as Gala, Red Delicious, Honeycrisp, and Empire.
Fill your basket up with other classics, too - Albemarle Pippin, York Imperial, and Arkansas Black, for example. You can learn more about each type of apple and how they are best used on the orchard's website.
Before you travel to the orchard, make sure the type of fruit you want is ready for picking. You can do that by emailing normansorchard@gmail.com, by calling 724-224-9491, or by checking Facebook.
