We all have our own definition of paradise. Some of us may find just a few hours to ourselves — to relax, to read, or even to just take a nap — is absolute paradise. Others may seek out and find their paradise in nature. Escape to this park and waterfall near Pittsburgh, away from the hubbub of everyday life, and you just might discover your new favorite paradise.
Spend a day among nature at McConnells Mill State Park, in Portersville, only 40 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh.
The sprawling 2,546-acre state park, nestled in the Slippery Rock Gorge, sits just five miles from Moraine State Park, another popular destination for Pittsburghers.
In the mood for a little more hiking? Set off on one of the harder trails, such as Slippery Rock Gorge Trail that will take you to the gorge's deepest sections.
Bring your fishing gear, if you're up for a little fishing. Plan a visit to the park's Old Mill, too, a gristmill next to a covered bridge, both dating back to the 1800s.
