Pittsburgh’s diversity promises plenty of unique, unforgettable experiences. We can feel as though we’ve traveled to Germany, for example, when we visit the enchanting Deutschtown neighborhood that dates back to the 18th century. Spend a day browsing the quaint shops, boutiques, and charming bakery. And, when you’re ready for a bit of a break, stop by this old school German restaurant that offers an authentic German culinary experience.
Stroll into Max's Allegheny Tavern, a Deutschtown neighborhood German restaurant for decades, and you just might feel as though you've been transported straight to Germany.
Sip a traditional German beer as you decide how to kick off your authentic German meal. How about a bowl of Einlauf soup, herring in sour cream, or Bavarian stuffed pretzels to get you started?
Bratwurst, the corned beef and cabbage sandwich, knackwurst, and Max's sausage platter, the latter of which comes with knackwurst, bratwurst, and weisswurst.
Don't forget to take a peek at the Old World favorites on the menu. The Bavarian Peasant Platter, Chicken Viennese, and Dutchtown Kielbasa are among your choices.
Of course, you'll probably also want to visit the charming tavern for Sunday brunch, with the traditional German farmers breakfast and an omelette bar. The Sunday buffet is available from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Stop by Max's Allegheny Tavern Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
