Less than 45 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, Moraine State Park sprawls across more than 16,000 acres. Visitors engage in an assortment of activities, including hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
However, the masterpiece of the lush state park just might be the 3,225-acre Lake Arthur, a playground for boaters, swimmers, and others who love the water.
Sunbathe on the sandy beaches along Lake Arthur. Lakeview Beach and Pleasant Valley Beach both feature changing facilities, showers, and even a snack bar.
Don't have your own boat, kayak, or paddle board? No worries. Head to the boat rental concession stand where you can rent each as well as motorboats, rowboats, canoes, and pontoon boats.
Add the 19th Annual Lake Arthur Regatta to your calendar, too. Set for August 4 and 5, 2018, the regatta boasts a full schedule of events, including boat rides, yoga on the lake, competitions, and live entertainment.
Cap off your day by drinking in a glorious sunset behind Lake Arthur. Moraine State Park is open from sunrise to sunset daily, although camping is permitted.
