Mary Virginia loved dolls. In fact, a stroll through Hill View Manor, during one its ghost hunts, will take you right to Mary Virginia’s bed, now filled with dolls left by visitors. But, Mary Virginia is just one of the many spirits said to remain at Hill View Manor, formerly the Lawrence County Home for the Aged, an institution that housed mentally ill, homeless, and destitute individuals at the order of the local courts. Now, you can embark on a ghost hunt for Mary Virginia and others at this former psychiatric hospital near Pittsburgh.
Hill View Manor saw its fair share of death during its 78-year history (1926-2004). In fact, some residents committed suicide while approximately 100 "inmates" who died in the hospital were buried on its grounds.
Throughout its history, Hill View Manor transitioned from a home for the mentally ill to a nursing home. Still, rife with problems, it permanently shut in 2004.
Then, after the tour, you're on your own to explore the former psychiatric hospital. You might just spot Mary Virginia, a little boy who died at the hospital, or numerous other spirits.
