Farewell, summer! While the official start of fall hasn’t yet arrived, the days will soon grow cooler and the air will turn crisper. That makes fall the perfect time to get outdoors to enjoy all of the fun fall activities. Autumn’s calendar, in fact, just might be even busier than summer’s. Hickory Apple Festival near Pittsburgh is one fun way to spend an autumn afternoon.
Kick off the most bewitching month of the year with a visit to the Hickory Apple Festival, set for the weekend of October 5-6, 2019.
Hosted by the Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Company, the annual festival boasts a full menu of fun, family-friendly activities. Saturday’s festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. while Sunday begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
Brush up on your apple bobbing skills, especially if you want wrack up the highest score at the festival. Apple bobbing is set for Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Kiddos will have a ton to do, too, during the weekend, including visiting the animals at the petting zoo, panning for gems, and visiting the fire safety house. The kids can also enter into a children’s pie eating contest.
Get the whole family’s faces painted, and join the community for a delicious pancake breakfast, both days of the festival. Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday.
Of course, you’ll have plenty of apple goodies to try throughout the festival, too. Indulge in such favorites as homemade apple butter, apple dumplings, and caramel apples.
