When winter begins to take hold, it brings with it brutally cold days. Before you know it, we start hearing announcements of school delays, slick roads, and impending snow storms. Most of us often struggle with cabin fever, too, especially as the winter wears on. That makes early winter days the perfect time to start compiling a list of things to do to bust up the monotony of winter. Here are five rinks for indoor ice skating in Pittsburgh to add to the list.
1. Ice Castle Arena
990 Castle Shannon Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15234, USA
Glide around not one but two rinks at Ice Castle Arena in Castle Shannon. It gets better, too. Both rinks are NHL regulation size, so there’s plenty of room on both rinks to fit a whole lot of skaters. Open skate means a ton of fun for the whole family – laser and cosmic lights add to the ambiance. Ice Castle Arena also offers ice skating lessons and a snack bar, where you can fill up on goodies. Check out Ice Castle Areana's website for more information such as pricing and schedule options.
Mt. Lebanon Ice Center has been a favorite destination for Pittsburghers for more than four decades. It, too, boasts two rinks – a regular-sized rink and a studio rink. If you’ve never ice skated before, you can sign up for lessons. Mt. Lebanon Ice Center offers public skating times, including a Friday Night Skate. Click here to be taken to the Mt. Lebanon Ice Center's website for all the details to help plan your trip to the rink.
If you’re within comfortable driving distance of Harmarville, you’ll definitely want to check out Alpha Ice Complex this winter. The rink offers skating lessons and hosts birthday parties. You can also stop by, during select hours, for open skate. (If you or the kiddos need assistance on the ice, use one of the walkers to help keep you balanced.) Check out the Alpha Ice Complex website to find a calendar of events, pricing and any other information you may need before hitting the ice!

4. PrintScape Arena at Southpointe
Printscape Arena at Southpointe, 114 Southpointe Blvd, Canonsburg, PA 15317, USA
Glide around the ice at PrintScape Arena at Southpointe in Canonsburg. The arena hosts a variety of skates, including public skate, tot skate, and Friday night skate. All skaters are advised, for their own safety, to wear a helmet, although it is not mandatory. The venue hosts a variety of events, so be sure to visit the PrintScape Arena website for additional information.
Formerly known as Center Ice Arena, Palmer Imaging Arena in Delmont offers an abundance of opportunities for spending time on the ice. Learn to play ice hockey or learn to skate, or just visit during public skating to glide around the rink. The arena also hosts birthday parties. Palmer Imaging Arena's website has all the information you need for your time on ice.
