Can you think of a better way to spend time with the family than getting outdoors, enjoying the fresh air, and exploring among nature? Pittsburgh makes it easy to explore any time of the year, especially if you like hiking. This scenic trail in Pittsburgh, for example, isn’t far from the hustle and bustle of downtown, but it offers plenty of peace and quiet.
Tucked in Frick Park, a sprawling 644-acre lush green park, Nine Mile Run Loop Trail to Fireland Trail Loop clocks in at just under two miles.
The trail, which is rated easy, is popular with hikers of all ages and skill levels. One of the predominant reasons it's earned an easy rating is the trail is gravel or boardwalk throughout.
While you're guaranteed beautiful views, be forewarned that if you follow the trail in the warmer months you may deal with a lot of gnats. You may want to lather on, and bring along, the insect repellant.
If you're not in a hurry, bring along a picnic. Even if you don't eat along the trail, you'll find plenty of picturesque spots throughout Frick Park for a picnic lunch.
